Mine clunks most when going into first with the enricher on. If I drop the revs, it shifts much smoother. I also have a Hayden auto primary chain tensioner.

I run synthetic in mine. After initial starting, if certain technique is followed, no clunk when putting in first gear. Between 1st and 2nd, if you pause at neutral, quiet shift can be made. Always clunky shifts between other gears. The quietist is between 3rd and 4th.

Synthetic lube (Mobil 1 V Twin FWIW) made my gearbox and clutch smoother too...plus if I preload the shifter slightly just before pulling the clutch in and shifting the shifts are MUCH quieter, little or no clunk that way.

Ok , I'm gonna have to revise my last statement . It's weird how perceptions alter when you're sitting at a computer ! Actually my bike doesn't clunk much at all except for the initial engagement of first gear . Most other gear changes are completely smooth especially if the revs are " Just right " I only really noticed this when I was thinking about this thread while actually riding the bike .

Iv'e been out for a spin, and change gear at low revs, i still get a clunk but a quiet one, but the bike feels like it wants to stall, I should say iv'e come from a Ducati 748 this is my first Harley, when i got back from my ride I noticed the primary case was quite hot, you can keep your hand on it, SO check the oil level, this looked ok, a beer later,, oil drained and measured, holy shi+++ half a cup full OVER filled,
now it has 32 oz, and i shall try again tomorrow, chain tension checked about 1/4" play, Iv'e looked at the Hayden auto primary chain tensioner about Ł130 alas the boss said no, not yet may be on the next service
