Buy a service manual It is all in there on how to test componants. Either that or don't bitch about the dealer, it is summer snd they tend to get busy. Beg to differ Sporty Pig, voltage reg was bad on my 99 not the stator. I would think they would go bad first. Maybe we could do a poll.

I'll beg to differ. I've lost 2 stators and 0 regulators.
Whether or not the stator will take out the regulator or the regulator will take out the stator, depends on whether the initial bad part fails open or shorted.

Simply testing the parts will not void any warranty. I myself prefer to know as much about what is wrong as the mech at the shop does. If you don't you are at their mercy I guess we agree to disagree pig. I would suspect the vr long before the stator.

Yep My 06 Stator took a **** also with less than 8,000 miles on the bike. Harley has a Stator vendor issue as they seem to be a real problem with there Sportster models. I did change the voltage regulator out with the chrome model but am keeping the stock one in reserve. ....WVleo

are you making this statement from fact or just guessing?

personally i checked all connections but will not tear anything apart as you are at the will of the servicing dealer, i have been in that position with a new car dealer in the past and i dont want to give them any excuse to not service the bike under warranty

There is no way a dealer is going to know you tested something, but I would let them know, so they know better then to pull some BS.

Lots of places are like that, they pull the rip off's on uninformed people.

I myself never go back for service on anything, if something breaks, I fix it, no one works on my stuff but me.
