Buy a service manual It is all in there on how to test componants. Either that or don't bitch about the dealer, it is summer snd they tend to get busy. Beg to differ Sporty Pig, voltage reg was bad on my 99 not the stator. I would think they would go bad first. Maybe we could do a poll.

I'll beg to differ. I've lost 2 stators and 0 regulators.
Whether or not the stator will take out the regulator or the regulator will take out the stator, depends on whether the initial bad part fails open or shorted.

i bought what was supposed to be a NEW bike that is under warranty and im not going to void that warranty by tearing in to it myself.
so personally i think im allowed to BITCH and BITCH I WILL until it gets fixed, the damn thing just turned 2K miles.
seems as though a bunch of us with 09s are starting to have problems
all around the same time also.
Simply testing the parts will not void any warranty. I myself prefer to know as much about what is wrong as the mech at the shop does. If you don't you are at their mercy I guess we agree to disagree pig. I would suspect the vr long before the stator.

Yep My 06 Stator took a **** also with less than 8,000 miles on the bike. Harley has a Stator vendor issue as they seem to be a real problem with there Sportster models. I did change the voltage regulator out with the chrome model but am keeping the stock one in reserve. ....WVleo

are you making this statement from fact or just guessing?
personally i checked all connections but will not tear anything apart as you are at the will of the servicing dealer, i have been in that position with a new car dealer in the past and i dont want to give them any excuse to not service the bike under warranty
