I know everyone seems to be getting around the 50 mpg range with thier 883's(at least thats what I'm hearing), but last night while at the 90th mile on my full tanke I ran out of gas and had to switch over to the reserver, when I went to the gas station i filled up with about 2.7 gallons. That's only around 33 mpg, could I really have wasted that much gas on warm up or is there something I should be concerned about? All of the driving on the tank was done in city driving no highways for me yet, I'm a little to new .
By the way its an 05 883 Low with 420 miles on it.
I did notice, on my 1200C, that I got something similar from my first tank of gas. I pretty much wrote that off to the fact that, for the first few miles, I was just practicing in parking lots and taking slower, shorter trips. Since that first tank I've gotten about 47 most of the time, with one odd fillup where I got maybe 38. That one is still a little bit of a mystery for me.
My 06 1200 Custom does about the same. Mostly around 47-48 but an occassional dip into the mid to upper 30's. Depends on how I'm riding, terrain, weather, etc. But ain't it fun?

Well, city driving is going to be harder on gas than highway. Especially if you do a bunch of stop and go. If you were like me when I first started riding I was constantly putting on and letting off the throttle because going fast scared me, that would be tougher on gas. I think once you and the bike are broken in you'll be fine.
I have a 2003 883C and consistantly get around 50 to 58 mpg on the highway. When I ride back and forth to work and in town my milage drops to around 45. Riding habits , terrain, and alot of other variables come into play. I'm using 91 octane and I get my best milage with this grade of gas. When the bike is broke in I think you will see your milage increase. Just be patient and keep an eye on your riding habits. BUT MOST OF ALL, HAVE FUN!
