Default Installing Saddlebags - help please

I'm installing some bags (90342-04a) on my sporty. The front of the bracket mounts to the shock. The instrauctions aren't completely clear. the bracket goes on the outside of the shock - right? also, is it necessary to disconnect the bottom of the shock? Seems like I should not have to mess with the bottom to do this...

Do I really have to lift the bike for this install? I just realized my floorjack is too big and I am now SOL...

If anyone has done this any help would be great - just fiished the layown plate and turn signal relo - what a PITA! Just little PITAs but lots of them!!

Thanks,
Dave

Yes, the bracket goes on the outside of the shock and yes those instructions are pretty bad. I did end up taking the bottom of the shock loose...it did make it a little easier.

Try to get a friend to tilt the bike over and then slide the jack under...that's how i got my jack under there.

Wink

Or drive your bike forward so both wheels are up on planks. But nothing in the middle obviously. Should get you another inch or so of clearance.

Harbor Freight sells a good MC jack for under $100 if you have a store near you. I had one for years, but sold it a while back. Now I'm kicking myself since I'll have to get another one.

Good luck on this install. Please post a pic when done, because I need to get some bags for mine and I wanna see what they look like on a Sporty.

Default Finished product

A little late but here are picks of the finished product. Turn signals moved and bags on....

I got real luck - went to sears to get the cheap jack - but got the expensive one for 77 from the return pile - perfect shape - can't beat that!
