I do a lot of minor adjustments and service for friends' bikes. I will keep in mind that this forum is not the "go to" place for info because I am not a fan of flaming.

I don't see anyone flaming at all. Cept for maybe the op that is pissy because of what he was told.
This forum is a great place for info. However you have to do YOUR part too and at least make a half hearted attempt to do so. To come in asking what the manual says etc when you haven't even bothered to try to get one is a complete joke.
One way to do it is feel the force it takes to undo the bolts, and make them just as tight.
Don't forget the towel over the gas tank before working on it, you don't want to drop the wrench on the tank, the kids might not eat for weeks with THAT bill.

Thanks, This information would have been for more helpful instead of having someone ridicule me for being cheap, plus it would have saved a whole lot of his time. Once I got my uncle's torque wrench, I realized that I could just start at a low torque setting and keep increasing it til it turned instead of clicking, and I would have found the right setting.
Seriously though, for someone as young as me, starting off in life, it takes a while before you get to a place where spending money doesn't cause as much stress. School debt and renting an apt. put a seriously heavy load on a guy. Specially when bike insurance where I am is so ridiculously expensive ($365 CND/month). So, sorry I offended people by worrying about my money, and sorry I used this site for something other than what you meant it for.
Been there, done that.
Was broke for quite a long time (still partly am), which is why its important to buy a manual and do the work yourself.
No way I could have owned half the cars and bikes I did if I had to pay someone to fix it, and fixing things without any info can cost more money....
You learn the feel of things over time, and I never use a torque wrench for anything other then crankshaft stuff and head bolts.
Over time, you learn to adjust the feel for Japanese stuff (which can strip if looked at the wrong way) and the American/European stuff which often withstands gorilla's.
look around online. I have found PDF download harley service manuals for $12. it sucks getting your computer greasy, but its an affordable option if you need a manual.
Copyrighted material? I suppose that when someone calls the store and wants to know the firing order of their Olds 350, I should tell them "Sorry, that's copyrighted material"
On a side note, you can find service manuals on ebay for around $20. I got mine for $20 from a shop that sold take-off parts and used parts from my local dealership.
