Hey... if the BBQ paint doesn't work for you, then you should try Brownells Aluma Hyde II... it is a tough lacquer specially made for coating aluminum... widely used in firearms for protection... the only downsize is that the curing period is at least 14 days... BTW.. I used it on some aluminum stuff.. the flat black finish looks great, and the application is very forgiving..

Well guys and gals bad news about the breathers. I made it about 5 miles towards the dealership to drop off for service and look down to find BOTH breathers blew off on the side of the highway. was able to find one breather on the side of the road but the other is long gone. . . Installed the breather kit that came with my new stack just to have it tunes and i will be changing it back to single filters as soon as i can figure out how to keep them on the bike.

On a lighter note i received a FREE HD 1/2" helmet yesterday from someone who works below me in my building. Not a huge fan of the skull and flames to im in the process of sanding/painting it but still awesome that she just GAVE it to me.

Any idea how much power loss you have with this setup?

K+N type filters work better then paper filters (for the same surface area) because they are poor filters.
They don't filter out fine stuff very well.

Notice not one manufacturer uses anything like them from the factory, despite being able to boost power or reduce filter size.

A big paper filter has almost no restriction, even when packed with dirt, and they filter really well. The downside is they are large (need lots of surface area).

On the street, the K+N filters are likely ok, as there is not a LOT of dirt, and you can even run no filter most of the time without too much dirt getting into the motor.

But dusty places, road work zones, etc, can ruin the motor without a filter.

There are people who tried K+N type filters, like mining equipment operators where buying a lot of big filters all the time costs a lot of money, so getting a reusable filter would save a lot of money.
They found a lot of dirt inside the motor after trying them, as I did on dirt bikes.

if he tunes it and gets an exhaust there will be a power gain not a loss. ive used k&n filters on almost every vehicle ive owned and i will always use them. they are a great product.

Brett - I dont believe there is any power loss? but i did baby the bike to the dealer so i wont know until this afternoon. I ended up getting a filtered stack like joe's so im no longer looking for a filter in there. The size of the filter itself is about as big as the SE "tube/cone" filter.

Cpitch - I have V&H slip ons but really like the double barrel sikpipes. those will come later though since i just bought the V&H.

Hey Moustache... one more note... I recommend you cover the front round screen on the filter, because that thing doesn't really filter dust... don't ask my why the filter has that configuration, I am sure it is intended for other purposes, but the guy who designed the velocity stack probably found that filter to be a perfect match for his design.... so, I used a flat round piece of metal... a good amount of crazy glue... and presto.. you can also get creative and get a round HD metal logo and glue it... it looks really cool...

Thanks Joe thats an awesome idea! Just got a call from the dealer and the service and STG1 is finished so i'll search the showroom for a small round piece of metal.

Hopefully i can find something black with a chrome skull?
