Default Stupid question about installing Mustang rear seat

I've rcently gotten a Mustang Wide Vintage seat, deciding to go with the 2 piece seat option so that I can ride "solo" when I want, but mount up the rear seat when I want it there. Here are my two silly questions. One is if there are any recommendations on protecting the rear fenders under the rubber bumpers on the bottom of each seat. It may be silly in a way, especially under the solo seat since it's a part of the fender that will always be covered by a seat, but I figure why not protect it if I can. Obviously something to protect the fender under the rear seat is more important. I know Mustang has fender bibs, but I'm not sure if they are designed more for the fender without a rear seat, or if they are for putting under the seat.

The next question is how to fasten down the darn rear seat. It has the bracket that I'm obviously supposed to slide under the screw on the back of the solo seat, but how do I fasten down that screw? There aren't enough instructions for some of these parts.

My best friend (who got me into wanting an H-D) used a clear adhesive plastic film made by 3M that is used as a chip guard for the front of automobiles. He cut to the shape of the pillion, stuck it to the clean fender and mounted the pillion. When he takes the pillion off, NO PAINT TROUBLE! The plastic film takes the abuse, but you can remove it, ride solo and if you remount the pillion, stick another piede in there.

Redneck engineering at it's best.

From waht I can tell the pillion kinda sits up and does not rest directly onto the fender. I have one on mine. Im not reallt sure there is much contact with the fender actually, but the clear tape is a great idea.

There should be another hole further back on the fender (probably got a pice of plastic covering it now). The front of the pillion hooks into the solo seat, and the back tab should fit right over the hole closer to the back of the fender. I just used the same screw from my old seat for the back (it didnt seem to come with an extra one).

But of course it didn't come with one. I'm sure it's probably 13.95 plus tax available at your local stealership. LOL[sm=headbang.gif]

Fortunately, I had bumped around the Mustang website before I got the seats and knew the instructions were there. Once you have them, it is so easy to install...even a woman can do it! Here is the link...

It turned out that a part was missing, which explains my confusion. The rear seat should have come with a longer screw and a spool washer that you screw down the front seat with, then the rear seat notches onto that, and you screw it down as you normally would in the rear.

I had discovered the installation instructions this weekend and had fired off an e-mail to Mustang support on Saturday asking if I should have gotten that spool washer and screw with the seat. He said it should have been there and they are sending one out to me today, so I really do have to applaud their support response (especially on a holiday weekend).

Thanks for the help on this issue.
