Hello,
Just got my 883Low last week and have been driving it around getting use to the bike. One thing I'm having a problem with is the shifter peg, I'm unable to feel the click into nuetral so I'm always shifting either all the way up to second or all the way down to first. Which is great when I'm actually shifting gears, but when I need to park my bike I don't want to be sitting there for 5 mintues trying to put it into neutral. I'm considering changing the stock shifting peg to perhaps a flat one or maybe seeing if the shift lever and peg can be extended out longer. I have mid controls. Has anyone come across this problem, or has any suggestions.
Thanks
Had same problem with my 883L when new. At 400 miles, I replaced tranny oil with a quart of Mobil 1 75w90 synthetic gear oil. Within about 5 miles, shifts quieted down and it snaps into neutral easier, and clutch works fine. I'm sure Amsoil, Redline, or any other gear oil would work great too, but I've used Mobil 1 in my Ranger for years with good results, and it was available at the nearby Checker Auto for about 9 bucks.
I've gotten alot of good tips from the guys on this forum.
More than likely, you'll find neutral easier to locate with practice. On my 06 Low, finding N can sometimes take a couple of tries. It takes a very, very light touch up or down to hit it. The only time my bike ever sees neutral however is when I'm warming it up at start up. I always park it in gear.
Replacing the shifter peg may help but I wouldn't count on it. I do have a replacement peg which I like quite a bit though. It's this one:
They do have bigger and longer shift pegs .. That may work if not Might want to consider different Primary/Tranny Fluid, perhaps check your clutch adjustment while changing fluids ...

I suggest that you try to put it into neutral while still rolling up to a stop. Once you stop rolling it seems that many bikes are hard to put into neutral, not just Harleys. As already mentioned, if the clutch is dragging, even just a little bit, it will be hard to get into neutral while you are stopped. A change of Transmission oil to a different brand can help with shifting but it doesnt fix a clutch that drags. Good luck with your shifting issue and ride safe out there!
