Default 48 Opinions

First off, let me start by saying that in no way am I trying to **** anyone off or start silly arguments on the internet. If I want a good fight, I'll just go over to my wife and tell her she reminds me of a beached whale. I kindly ask that all forum trolls, please move on after reading this introductory paragraph.

When the 48 first came out, I really didn't like it. The 2.1 peanut tank and the fat front tires just look really awkward to me. I really liked the blacked out look and some of the stock options such as the forward controls but the overall look just didn't seem "right" to me. I thought maybe if I keep seeing it, it'll start to grow on me but the more I see them, the uglier they get.

When I started looking to buy my first motorcycle, specifically a Sportster (before the 48 was introduced), all of the models looked "cool" but for me the Iron and the Nightster definitely caught my attention. I went with the Nightster because I wanted the bigger engine but I would have been happy with any other Sportster as long as it wasn't pink.

Now, as I clearly stated above, this is just my opinion and as such it's not meant to be agreed upon by everyone. However, the whole reason for this post is to see if I'm the odd one out or just to get a sense of how others feel. No disrespect to anyone and even if you think the 48 is the coolest bike in the world and my Nightster is a pathetic excuse of a Harley, I am more than willing to respect your opinion and will simply agree to disagree.

Tell me how you feel on the subject.

Nice looking bike, fun to ride (so I'm told by someone who owns one; I have ridden a 1200L and had a lot of fun on it, assume that the ride is pretty similar). But that tiny tank is ridiculous. The range of a standard Sporty isn't enough, but with that peanut tank you're lucky to get 90-100 miles before you run completely out of gas.

I love mine but personally I felt the stock tank was just too small. From a styling perspective the small tank looks cool but in actual use 2.1 gallons of fuel capacity is just stupid. It's a motorcycle not a lawn mower.

I replaced my tank with one from a Nightster and I'm very happy with the result.

Default Opinion of a 71 year old female rider.

I was riding Harleys back when most of you young dudes
were just a gleam in your daddy's eye. I rode my softail
custom to Sturgis on my 70th birthday last year.
It was after that trip that I decided I needed a smaller,
lighter weight bike.

This birthday my husband bought me a 2010 "48"
and I love it. It has plenty of power, has a low center
of gravity, and is light enough for me to handle.

The best thing Harley has done to the sportster line
in years..

Always wanted a Harley but could never decide which one.

Saw the 48 online. Looked different from all other Harleys and that's
what i liked. Still wasn't sure because its a sportster and I'm 6'2". Went to the
dealer and it looked even better in person. Sat on it and had to have it. Haggled for 2 days and bought it.

I like it more the longer i have it especially since i changed the pipes.

The 48 is a cool looking bike and if the bike had a bigger tank I would have one. I have a sportster with the 3.3 gallon tank and I need to map out my rides by how far is each gas station so I could just imagine with the 48's tank.

Honestly I was looking for a used Triumph or Brit bike when I started looking at Harley's and the 48 and I was sold and I couldn't be happier.

The 48 looks cool, but I'd never give up my Nightster for one!

I would. I think they are pretty damn sweet, alot of subtle changes from my '07 that I like alot, front turn signal mounts, speedometer, engine case, bigger front tire, definitely worth upgrading too IMO.
