I was on my way home last night around 10:00. I was going about 45 mph down this twisty rode enjoying the ride when I caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of my left eye. Next thing I know this huge deer is heading right straight for my bike. I grabbed a handful of brake and the thing ran probably three feet in front of me. I am glad he came from the left to give me time to brake. Glad the sporty has good brakes and I still have good reaction time. Scared the crap out of me! Ride safe, especially at night.
Most definitely - glad you didn't intersect w/this animal (45mph impact would of hurt). Getting to be a real problem here in NE - too many & they love dusk/dawn.
I did hit one about 2 months a go lucky there where 2 of them and I saw the first one and got slowed down wouldn't so lucky with the 2nd one lucky no damage just a little hair on the front forks thank goodness.
Thank goodness you made it out of that situation safely!!! You never win in a battle with deer, I have cut back my night riding significantley in the last 10 years or so just way to many more critters out there than there used to be
I hit a deer last year, I usually ride my bike to work, but this particular morning I had to pick up some things after work so I drove my truck......'BAMMMM'......didn't even see the deer coming, limped the truck home and got the motorcycle and made it to work about an hour late, Just thank the Lord I wasn't on my bike that morning...
I drive 30+ miles to work on roads that cut through farmland or wooded areas and for years have seen at least 2-3 hit deer along side road per week, along with other critters, most are non squishible. Several of my co workers have had encounters of the worst kind with 4 legged friends and I have had several close calls. About a month ago I saw the car about 1/4 mi. in front of me launch a deer several feet into the air when that one ran out in front of us. He smacked it doing 70 and neither the car nor the deer made it through that one. One of the things I had to accept when I got my bike a couple of months ago was that I would not ride from late afternoon through the night to early morning. Tough choice but one I had to do to make sure I could drive safe. Have shifts that frequently bring me into those times so there are several days I don't ride to work. Glad you made the right choice.
Yeah I've had a few close ones here in Vermont and only one year of riding experience. I'm lucky when I ride at night it's usually with a group of 3 or more friends so that helps out alot especially since sporster headlights aren't great from the factory!
Glad you didnt hit it... I have seen the result of a deer vs motorcycle, and the deer did better than the person did. It is a gut wenching feeling to see them run at the last second possible.
I had an 8 pt buck dart in front of me the first week I had my bike. Luckily I was only going 45 because I was traveling through this little blip of a town but it really startled me because I wasn't expecting a deer to run out from inbetween a couple houses. Close enough I could have slapped it as I went buy. Jumpy has hell the remainder of the ride home. Be safe. The b@stards are everywhere.
Used to be they would get thinned down every season thanks to the local hunters. Now everything seems to be privately leased so the populations don't get reduced like they used to. You have to appreciate the irony from the farmers though. They b!tch about the deer eating their crop but then turn around and lease their land for hunting so fewer hunters can help them.
