Default Taking a 300 mile trip on A 2009 Iron 883

I changed out the shocks and seat. I understand that with a penut tank im goint to be refueling often. so I'll just pack a Gal of extra gas just in case. is there anything elts I should do before the ride? Thanks.

Well do the basics like always! All your fluids and tire pressures I'd also check the shocks and make sure with the bike loaded and you on it that you won't bottom out. If you feel it's questionable I'd adjust them up one or two notches and tighten her up a bit!

I'd leave that extra gas at home. The stops for gas you'll make will be welcome ones.

Ditto, I have the bigger tank, and even still I was stopping every 100 miles to refuel and mostly to give my butt a break...

Yeah these Sporties,,when the fuel light comes on
ya prolly got another 40 to 50 miles left, depending on tank size.
Do what I do when I'm running long,
Fuel Light comes on,,I run 10 to 15 more miles
and stop.
When I do this,,my 4.5 gallon tank holds about 3.6 gallons.
If I fill when the light first comes on It takes 3.3 gal.
I just can't stop knowing I got more than a gallon left..
Round town with the lower mileage,,I stop with the light.
I don't worry about the Light failing,,
I also use one of the trip meters

(never knw if you get llst or something stupid. its only an extra gallon and it fits in my bag. just preparing for the worst i guess.

James,
I just rode my Nightster to Austin, TX and back from Burlington, VT.
You'll be fine.
When in doubt, fill'r up. I didn't carry extra gas, and just had the bare necessities with me.

No better feeling.

Have fun.

Air shocks made a nice difference though.

On a long trip I always carry a tire repair kit and a small air pump that runs off the battery and a set of rain gear. its a more useful use of the space and weight of the gas you are carrying.

You will do fine. I actually did 500 yesterday and 250 today on my 883.
I agree that you really won't need the gas but if it makes you more comfortable then take it.
Advice A mirco fiber towel and if you can pick up some packable raingear.
Your 883 will do fine and you will have a great time.
