whats up guys i need help, i been reading alot of the stages of upgrade and on this website http://www.harley-riders-guide.com/h...rformance.html it looks like the stage 2 will be replacing the cams , now i got offer a new pair of 1200 cams for free i will only have to pay for labor , my scoot is a 2010 iron whit PCV , V&H SS, SE HB , and iam sorry but maybe this question has been asked alot, whats your guys opinion
had a buddy that is the mgr parts department at a harley shop sorry i can say were , and he usually hookes me up whit cosmetic stuff never whit mechanical , but he told me he had a pai of new 1200 cams that i could have for free , question will it affect anything putting them on ? the thing is that i haven't asked him and i haven't asked any mechanics
Some cams only add power near the top of the rev range,,where ya seldom ride..
I'd be more concerned about getting the right cams for your riding style.
Often the right cams need different valving n pistons.
Throwing In just any old cam like we used to back In the Iron block V8 days
gives mixed results,,
You start holding valves open longer ya best have the Air volume needed commin in and getting out.
Cams are always matched with headwork and head design. The 1200 has completely different heads than an 883. If you want to do some motor work, consult someone who knows what they are doing.
I think you have W cams and depending what type of 1200 cams your talking about they could be older D cams with less lift than the W cams or maybe they are the same cams that's in your bike now.
Need more details on those 1200 cams like are they W, D, 536, 550, 575, etc. Cause with bigger cams you may have to fly cut the pistons for valve to piston clearance and stronger springs that will not coil bind and have enough valve seal clearance too.
