When I sit on the bike, with the preload set and the lowest level, it sags no more than 0.25". I've been riding it that way for a couple days. Seems about right. Handling fine, and not bottoming out. If I pack on gear or ride two up- anything other than my 110 pound self, I'll bump up the preload.

Default Here's what my 48 manual says ...

Less than 165 lbs - Position 1
165-195 --- Position 2
195-225 --Position 3
225-255 --Position 4
More than 255 -- Position 5

Since you said you ride solo and are 110 lbs, you can do the lowest setting, more travel. I weighed myself with my riding gear and it added to my weight. But at 110 lbs, you won't need to worry about your gear. Now, you also need to take into account any accessories you added to the stock bike, luggage racks, luggage etc.

On my XL50 I keep the stock shocks at the lowest setting and I'm about 160 LBS and I even ride 2 up at times-sure they bottom out, but I like the way the bike sits and feels with them there. On my 1200 C with the stock shocks I have them set one notch from the top since this is my 2 up bike all the time and it still bottoms out if you hit the right bump, but over all does good. For you crank them down to the lowest setting and you will be fine, don't go more than one setting up.
