Default Upgraded brakes?

I'd like to upgrade the brakes on my 04 1200C. Someone suggested Performance Machine, but I don't really want chrome. Has anyone put the dual front brakes from the Roadster on their Custom? Any other recommendations?

Confidence in my ability to brake quickly, basically. I broke my wrist in April running into the back of an SUV (long story). While I know it's not just a matter of brakes, but also skill, I always felt that my bike didn't brake all that well and I had been considering putting on the Roadster brake set-up for a couple of years. My roommate's Road King brakes a lot better, and it's 200 lbs heavier. I'm also planning on retaking the MSF course, but I'd still prefer to upgrade the front brakes.

My recommendation is that you try better brake pads, change the fluid and make sure the systems are bled properly. The stock system is more than adequate (when properly maintained), unless you've added a ton of weight to the bike.

I am probably going to install dual fronts on my 04 1200C this winter. I am planing on using the Brembro brand. They will provide a lot more stopping power over the stock systems. Since most of the braking comes from the front end it makes since to have duals up front.

To me, performance improvements don't need to stop at the engine. I want a bike that is not only quick and fast. I also want it to be able to stop on a dime as well.

I have installed steel braided brake lines and that has helped the stock system a good bit. As the rubber factory lines expand as you add pressure you lose some of your braking. The braided lines wont expand and you get a more solid feel.

Good luck with your project.

The brake pads were fairly new anyway, but now the current pads and fluids are new, since the front forks, brake and wheel were replaced. I had a braided steel brake cable from the time I put the pullback bars on it, although I'm going to go ahead and get the rest of the cables replaced to match. Thanks for the suggestion on the Brembro, mac. I'm familiar with them, but for Porsches. Never thought of them for the bike. What about floating rotors? I know they help with even wear, but are there any other advantages?

from what i understand if you have a custom and have the laced 21" front wheel you can not do a dual disc front brake set up unless you change to the 19" wheel that is on the roadster. someone can correct me if I am wrong but remember hearing that somewhere else before.
