i have a freinds with a sportster bible and i ran a test on my rectifier.. it failed.. i replaced it and everything is perfect, voltage at the battery is right on... so it was the rectifier... thanks for everyone input..

Could be that you have a bad battery cable. Disconnect the battery and check the battery cables with an ohm meter. Should have less than one ohm resistance on both cables. Or use a voltmeter with the battery installed and check for a voltage drop. The higher the voltage drop the worse the cable. Either way put your test leads on either end of the battery cable(s). Check one cable at a time. My '04 XLR snapped the lug on the ground cable where it bolts onto the top of the engine cases. Good Luck!
