Default cleaning piston heads

stripped down my 883 to replace a worn shifter drum in the transmission (expensive!!). While the bike is in bits I'm cleaning bits up as best I can. Whats the best way to remove the carbon deposits from the piston heads without scratching the face?
Thanks.

you could always use a honer (i am sure i spelled that wrong) some parts stores you can rent them (odd yes) but you can also buy them they connect to your drill

Maybe a flexible brake rotor hone would work? Or something similar.

The cylinder homers are generally spring loaded pads. Just don't get a ridge reamer. I could get you a pic if u want

Soak in Seafoam or carb cleaner overnight then brush off with a stiff bristled nylon detailing brush.

A cyclinder hone is not going to be much use on a piston head.

gpsjr10's idea was probably the best.
