Default Ironhead Transmission Question
Just bought an 81 ironhead for 900.00. On the ride home i noticed when you shift, shifter does not return to the neutral position. Can anyone point me in the right direction to fix this? You can stick your toe under it and raise it so it shifts. Otherwise shifter will not move, either upshifting or downshifting. Also have to get last gear upshifting by using the heel of my boot-doesn't seem to want to go in gear with my toe. Bike had sat for years before this guy bought and I it bought it so he can stay out of jail. Says has new clutch just installed along with some new electronic parts.

Just another quick thought, though...

check to see if the lever is tight on the shaft. It may be slipping when you push it then not returning but the shaft may still be fine.

Thanks scott. After posting the other realized it was on someones thread so i deleted and started this one. Will check it out monday when i get back to the shop.
