Just put my new a/c and cycle shack slip-ons the other day, fired her up, and everything was seemingly perfect. Getting excited to test out the performance, and what?!?!?!?!? No first gear...................So I pop her in second........that works...........but now I can't get back into neutral or first. Shifting up through five and back to second is perfect. But trying 1st and neutral shifter just springs down and pops back up, but no downshift. For the heck of it I checked the easy stuff, primary level, chain free play, clutch cable, and clutch adjustment, and all is good. So anyhow, anyone got any tips on what to start looking at, or know of common issues. I'll be pulling the primary case tomorow to take a look-see, so I just wanted some tips as I haven't worked on harley tranny issues before. I've rebuilt and restored quite a few bsa's and vintage jap bikes, but harleys are a new realm for me. I just got a service manual, so for now I'll start off with their inspection methods, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

If it worked OK before the mods then I would be looking for shift linkage hitting something or binding. I'm not familiar with that model but it stands to reason that something you changed brought on the problem.

well after taking the primary apart, I found the shift pawl was a little out of adjustment, I was suprised it only aftected 1st and neutral though.........but anyhow, adjusted things and got it all back together now and it shifts like normal again.
