True...not a builder but it doesn't mean that their bike isn't "custom". I happen to be someone who earns a living getting paid to customize other peoples' pride & joys. From simple custom paint over what they already have to full custom built frames, suspension, steering...whatever. Just because they can't do it themselves doesn't mean that they're not allowed to own their version of a perfectly personalized/customized ride that they have in their head but simply don't have the time, tools or skill to put mind to metal.

Having stated that...if there is anything to be cut, bent, rolled, seamed, shaped, welded, customized, I will do that myself. BUT, I don't change my own oil or do my own service. Not on my bikes or trucks. I take my bikes to a local indy shop. I like hanging out there shooting the **** with the people and I like to support other local businesses.

is he a real biker or not? On one hand he uses his hands to modify stuff( not just bolt on either) yet he does not change his own oil or gasp likely the plugs either. A lot of unanswered questions here...what % of the time does he use his bike as opposed to his "cage" and just how cold or wet is he willing to get to prove what a real biker he is? Has he ever stared down some poor old bastard, that looked like he might be ready to cut him off, with his steely biker/pirate glare?? How will I ever sleep....laying there tossing and turning wondering if he is more of a biker than I am. Crap I do work on my bikes myself but I have left my Sportster stock...I thought it was because I liked the bike and it suited the purpose I got it for but what if its because I am a "closet poser".
Who decides if one is "real" or not...Sonny Barger, Evil Kenevil, The Fonz.........? Maybe if I just keep thinking real biker thoughts Cher will wake me some night, make me real and wisk me off to be a member of a real biker club or a member of some kind of co-op where I can get big discounts on real biker stuff.

I'm new on here but reading this thread is interesting. I don't own a Harley but am looking to buy one in the spring of next year. Neither am I mechanically minded and don't know one end of a spanner from the other. Haven't ridden for a few years (sportsbike) but love the 'feel' of biking and the joy of ownership.
So reading this thread..... what would I be letting myself in for....?

I have had that assistance from folks on full dress Harleys to Sportbikes, to Vespas. There IS a two-wheeled community out there that looks out for one another, regardless of what you - or they are riding...

Dude, you keep contradicting yourself. Earlier you said:

"No one buys one, without changing something about them.
Don't have to be a flat out rebuilt customization, to "personalize" your bike."

So, are you talking "customization" or "personalization"? Make up your mind.

And the two sportbikes are heavily modified, not just paint.

Well it's not the old days and last I looked back in the old days the bike did not handle all that wall and were made to look cool over anything else. I mean look at the choppers of the 70's and the old bodders. If you don't like the posts then don't read them.
