Default Detachable Sissy Bar with Saddle Bag Supports

I have an '05 1200 Custom that I already have a detachable sissy bar on. I would like to put saddle bag supports on as well. However I believe the HD website says they don't work together.

Has anyone done this? If so, how did you do it? Did you just run down to the local hardware store and buy a longer bolt where the front of the saddle bag support mounts. Or is there a better way.

Click HERE for the docking hardware matrix. Not sure exactly which type of saddlebag supports you are talking about though.

Yea, that just gives me the detachable hardware for my bike. I already have the detachable side plates and the mounting hardware. As a matter of fact that's already on the bike. But I want to add the saddle bag supports and they say it won't work with the detachable plates and hardware. I'm just wondering if someone got it to work. Seems like a simple solution would be just a longer bolt on the one side but maybe that won't work.

Saddle bag supports do not interfere with the docking hardware. The supports mount to the top of your shock and to the fender strut. I have an 06 Costom with detachable sissy bar with the saddlebag supports and everthing worked just fine, however,,,,,I took my saddlebag supports off cause I didn't like the looks of them when I wasn't running with the saddlebags.

The saddlebag supports includes hardware with the longer bolts.

From what I recall, the problem I had was not with the detachable sissy bar, it was the rear turn signals. HD failed to tell me I had to relocate the rear signals to install the brackets they sold me. I even looked at ones from J&P and they were nice enough to tell me they won't work unless I relocated the rear signals. I opted for Ghost brackets instead. Maybe HD has changed the bracket setup since I tried this in 2006-2007.

I've already done the relocation so that's not a problem. The problem is the bolt that comes with the support doesn't take into a count that you have detachable sissy bars.

Here's actually the statement on the HD website

"
Chrome Saddlebag Supports

Fit with or without Sissy Bar Uprights, attach easily, and protect bags from contacting brake and swingarm.

90799-94D

Fits '94-later XL models (except XL1200S and '02-'03 XL883R). Does not fit with Detachables. Includes Chrome Upper Shock Covers P/N 54711-94.

MSRP US $99.95"

Default yeah...

i'm actually having the same problem. from what i understand you can still put saddlebags on even with the detachable sissybar BUT you have to use the hard mounted bags. which means they attach directly and dont use the supports. they're hard saddlebags. and are more expensive, but a lot of them are lockable which is nice.
