Default lower triple tree

Bought the wife a new lower tree for her '07 custom for x-mas. The lower tree comes with the lower neck bearing. Is it necessary to purchase a top neck bearing as well and/or do you not have to do anything to the top bearing in order to remove the lower tree?

Probably not just grease it, but maybe we need to know why you needed to replace the lower tree?

While it's apart, I'd put in new bearings top and bottom. The steering stem is pressed into the lower fork. You'll need to take the upper tree off to get the bottom tree out. If the fork oil hasn't been changed, I'd do that, too. The fork oil will look similiar to mud within 10k miles of brand new. Go with something heavier than stock fork oil and the handling will improve. This thread may or may not be of some help to you:

I bought the bike used a couple years ago and it only had 2700 miles on it. A couple weeks after I got it I noticed the fork stop nub was snapped right off on the lower tree. I studied the manual and noticed it says to remove the top bearing and race before pulling the lower tree. I will probably have my indy do this job for me since I'd have to buy a jack, bearing remover/installer,etc. Looks like a fairly easy job if I had the specialty tools needed.
