Default fried stator

My stator went out again. This is the second one in about 35,000 miles The first one went out at 16,000 miles and this one at 34,000+ miles. I hate to say it, as much as I love my Sportster I'm thinking about switching back to a metric bike. I'm not much of a mechanic and this Sportster is just costing too much to keep running.

Really doubt if I will switch back to metric. Just ticked off right now

There was a thread a few months ago about replacing the stator with a higher amp one from a big twin? But you may need to change the regulator also. Do a search and you may find it. I think it was either Sportypig or cHarley that posted the info if I remember correctly.

Its for a Sportster, its the 3 phase setup that Cycle electric has...... The OP didn't post the year of his bike so this may not be the right numbers for his.

Is this common or an isolated incident for this model?

Default seems pretty common issue

These stators seem to go alot on Our Sportsters. I replaced mine at 7,000 miles at the cost of $400. If it goes again it's gone ! I'm not that dedicated to the brand of the bike but the quality. I'm sure it's a vendor issue with the stator, but I sure as hell won't pay again to have there mistake fixed. I won't upgrade to a better electrical part because I don't think that would reassure Me with this ride's reliability ( as it is it's almost gone now ) . I know all bikes have issues with this or that. But the stator is not something You can just fix on the side of the road somewhere in the boonies. And new sportsers lb for lb are not cheap ! But that's just Me.....WVleo
