Im just trying to get some ideas. I have a 03 883r so the motor is black. I can buy the black h-d ones or the after mkt. I was thinking of a "do it your self" tipe of deal or something I can get a hardware store, I DONT KNOW. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to cover them up?
I got the chrome ones from HD as that side of the motor has plenty of black and very little chrome in the first place. I've had them on for a couple years and they are standing up good, easy install too.
To further dress up that side I added the chrome cylinder base cover, chrome rear brake reservour, chrome derby cover and chrome oil filter.
There is a decent picture of that side of my engine in my gallery.
I only seen them once and I believe it was on JP cycles, or maybe Dennis Kirk, but someone made a finned cover like the ones for the '04+ Sportsters. Was black and made that area look like there was nothing there. I was looking to get them for mine but went a different route. Maybe give them a look. Hopefully someone else here will have a better handle on the parts I'm talking about.
Aftermarket accesories prices out here are beyond a joke,I used dome head nuts you get them steel ,chrome or stainless .I then drilled them out to fit over the bolt heads and glued them on.They are still pretty secure after a year and a half,Cost me about $10 total.
