So my dad just bought a Suzuki Boulevard 1800. I have an Iron 883. Both are pretty stock. How would they compare speed-wise? Yea I know he has twice the engine I have but its also like 300 pounds heavier. Ok so basically, who would win in a drag race?
I would say that the Sporty would win, power to weight is the ticket, not just power. Also depends on the gearing and the track. If the Zook was geared in the basement and has more power, you would win short track but he would run you down in a longer, say 1/4 mile run. If his was geared tall, he could get the holeshot but fall out of gear half way down a longer track.
Your Dad is going to whoop you so bad it won't even be funny. Even if you had a 1200 he would STILL mop the floor with you. Even if you were on the XR1200 he would STILL beat you. get the idea? The only bike in Harleys lineup capable of running with a M109R is the V-Rod and even then you'd better be the better rider if you want a clear win.The M109 put out about 120hp at the crank (105@ the wheel). Yes it's huge but it's a serious bike.
I sort of get the impression that anything compared to a Harley would smoke the HD, in your opinion CC, even if the other ride were a Schwinn. But if the Sporty is 600lbs. and 80 hp, for example, and the Zook were 900lbs., it would have to push out 120hp just to be equal to the Sportster's power to weight ratio. Looks like they are pretty dead even, to me. Throwing in the different gearing, rider ability, and suspension/tire, there are too many variables to know for sure. A Sportster vs. a GSXR, yeah, the Gixxer would run the Sportster down. A Sportster vs. a Blvd., would not be as clear cut as you think.
A stock 883 Sportster will run high 14s in the 1/4 mile. The M109R runs mid-11s. The Sportster will barely be halfway down the track when the 'Zuk crosses the line. Don't run, you'll get embarrassed. A Stage One XR1200 would be able to give the 'Zuk a run for it's money, but would still lose unless ridden by a far superior rider.
Captain Chaos is right... I love Harleys, always have, always will, but they aren't even in the same neighborhood as "fast."

Unfortunately, the stock 883's RWHP is more like 50ish, or about 1/2 that of the Zook.
There are published 1/4 mile specs for both bikes and the difference is pretty clear. They're not even close to being in the same league on a 1/4 mile drag strip, unless you give it 3 second handicap.
Oh I understand that, not saying that the bikes themselves are equal, just saying that there are a lot of factors than just power. BTW, I just noticed he said 883, I was thinking of 1200 numbers... but still I can't imagine an 883 only having 50hp at the motor. Could be wrong about that, though.
