Thanks, I just looked that up, and it could work...I'll see if that tire is available in Switzerland...I fear not, same with the Coker, but I'll ask anyway.

Well, armed with my new knowledge I hit the internet, and found a tire I like

Bridgestone TW202
http://www.bits4motorbikes.co.uk/Tyr...tml?TryeID=388

but it's 120/90 and the speed rating is P and the load index is 63.
120 as opposed to 130, will that be a problem?
P is up to 93mph, what happens if I sometime go 100?
stock is 72, is 63 a problem? I weigh 90kg
Can I also put this tire on the rear?

Thanks

L

In case anyone is still following, I just order a set of Duro HF 904 130/90 16

http://www.bikebandit.com/duro-hf904...otorcycle-tire

If they don't work out at least they were nit that expensive, but I love the tread pattern, and the reviews I read were good.

Thanks for the help

Chears,

Lou
Lou, you can get Avon's and Cokers here in the UK and shipping to Switzerland is easy, so if you the tires that you ordered don't work out give me a shout and I'll point you in the right direction of some UK suppliers.

Hi Spence,

actually it didn't work out. I got an email from BikeBandit telling me they can not ship tires internationally at the moment, so the order was cancelled.

Also, the weight index was too low on those tires.

Could you please point me towards those suppliers for Cokers?

Thanks,

Lou

That Iron's front end was modified to be wider...yours already is wider. You can safely run the tires that Iron has no problem.

Here's a link to the UK importer of Coker, but having looked at their website the tires used on the Rough Crafts bike are actually the Avon Road Safety 5.00 x 16

www.northhantstyres.com

There are a few others but these should be able to sort you out

I'm messing around with tire sizes on a few of my Sportsters. 2 of which, will have 16" front wheels.

I use a mock up frame to try out different parts and have gathered some info that may help you.

Here it is with a 39mm wide glide front end and, 16x3 wheel & 150 tire (not using the wide glide, I'm going to run the 16's with a stock narrow glide)

One bike will have Avon Speedmaster 5.00-16's front & rear (like the Roughcraft Iron), one will have Shinko 130/90-16's front & rear. The other will have 100/90-19's front & rear but you won't care about that one.

Something you need to consider when ordering tires is the size differences between manufacturers regardless of the matching number size.

For instance, the Shinko 130/90-16 is not as wide or tall as a factory Dunlop with the same size indication. Also, the Avon 5.00-16 is not a direct match to your tires...front and rear. The Avons are TALL and narrow. The front will mostly be noticeable in height but the rear in height and a significant difference in width. A full inch narrower than the rear. Your rear tire is 25.45" tall and close to 6" wide. Your front tire is 25.21" tall and 5.11" wide. The Avon is over 27" tall and 5" wide. This will immediately raise your bike atleast one full inch and lessen the fender gap (front and rear) by atleast one full inch as well.

Here is a pic of the size difference. The Avon on the left and the Shinko on the right.

Here's a direct height comparison shot

I'm not trying to discourage you...I think it'll be cool when you get it ironed out. I'm only trying to save you from having to experiment until you get what works best or what you like most.

I really appreciate the knowledge Mreed, and the info Spence.

I've spent the last 3 days looking at this issue from as many angles as possible, and this last post was a God send. I'm still undecided as to what tire I will eventually put, so considering that my current tires still have a few thousand kms in them, I still have some time.
The rough crafts site claims they are coker tires, but the avon and cokers look similar, but I would probably go with the newer one.

Other option is to switch to 17s and then the whole world opens up as far as dual sport tires like the Michelin Anakee

Thanks again,

L

Here's something to consider as well then. You just mentioned that your current tires have ONLY a few thousand km's on them...with Coker tires you will only NET a few thousand km's before they need replaced. If you are careful and take it easy in the turns you can squeeze a bit more out of them but they are not high mileage tires at all.
