Just seen this again in the chopped fender, someone stated your tires expand when they get warm so when dropping the rear fender leave a 1/2 inch gap.
I did realise this but my question is does the tire expand both ways?
Does the tire expand width ways too, across to tire? And if so what would be the min clearance?
Wondering this myself I have a bolt that is kida close to the side of my back tire because of a lock nut.
Yep this is why I'm asking this very question, I just slammed the rear with 10.5 progress shocks and have a bolt which is a little near the the side of the tyre
The last thing we as bike riders need is a blow out at speed :0/

Centrifical force causes the tire to expand out(taller) not wider. In reality the tire under speed would get narrower. Although on these harder compound street tires it's not as noticable or significant than say a soft compound tire.
Setting up your bike with very little clearance between tire and fender, bolts, etc. can really limit your choices in replacement tires in the future. Tires from different manufacturers are different heights, even if they have identical size listings.
