Default Turn signal prob...again.

I thought I had fixed the problem with the right turn signal that did not
flash, simply by cleaning the bulbs and sockets.... but nope![:@][:'(]
Now I've noticed that the right turn signal only works when the engine is idling. At higher revs it stops flashing
and is constantly illuminated.. I have renewed the cables on both sides, because
the previous owner hadn't done a decent cabling job when the "custom teardrop" lturn lights were installed.
(One of the cables was actually underneath a bolt head which had resulted in cable damage)
My Sporty is a 1998 Xl 1200S.

Anyone got any good ideas?

Have you tried just replacing the bulb yet? Since it is a double filament bulb the vibration from the higher speeds may be causing the filament to jiggle a little and not get a full connection. I had a similar problem except mine was reversed when idling blinker didnt work but when riding at normal speeds it did work. I replaced the bulb and that has fixed the problem so far.

Look at the socket itself. If its loose and may be loosing contact with the housing when the rpm,s get up.'Vibrating"Its a one wire hookup and the signal/.socket is the ground.Hold the bulb with the signal activated and rev it up.If it works ok,its the socket.Put i little silicone/glue on the socket where it meets the housing.I battled one similar to this for months until I accidently found it.

Thanks a lot guys, I will try those..

I hope it's not the turn signal module... [:'(]
But I think it wouldn't flash at all if the
module would be broken.

I doubt it is the module. If you didn't replace the bulb, that's what I'd try before anything else.

I had a similar problem with my tail light. The running light wasn't working but the brake light was. I thought it was the bulb, but then I found that it was a bent pin in the connector. Sure mine's an 06, but you may have that same problem where there are connector pins involved or it's your signal relay.

So, now I have checked the bulbs, installed new cables and checked the ground connection
between the turn signal light housing and the frame. Everything seems to be OK.
One issue might be that the factory turn signal lights have a separate ground cable, and these
"custom lights" are grounded through the housing. I don't really know if this is a problem, because
the ground loop is OK, so it should basically be the same potential at all grounded locations.
BTW, I noticed that the wiring diagrams in my Serivce manual (by Clymer) were a bit
confusing, because the electrical system is different on different year models.[:'(]

flip the wires and see if the problem goes with the wire or stays on the right side. if it stays you need a better ground.
