So I bought a 2005 Sportster with the factory security system on it. I didn't get an owners manual.
I set the system by pushing the button once, I got that down.
How I got it to deactivate, I have no idea, I just kept pushing the button differently and finally it deactivated and it started.
What is the proper method to deactivate the security system?
I would just as soon not go through that again untill I understand how to use it.
Thanks Randy
relli,
Honestly I have no idea. I just know if I push the button it arms it, then if I go thru many various methods at pushing the button different ways it finally unarms it.
I just went out and looked and it is not armed and the keys are a long ways from the bike.

Just push the button twice to disarm. Push it once to arm, twice to disarm. It took me a little bit to get used to pushing it twice. the first time I armed it, I was at the rockstore, and I had to ask someone to show me how to disarm it. Just push it twice, and the lights will flash.
What anubisss said. Hold it down until the lights flash to activate it, push twice in rapid succession to deactivate at and you'll notice the signal lights will flash to acknowledge it being disarmed. Another method to disarm it is to insert your key and then turn the ignition on and off quickly. If you want scanned instructions from the manual, PM me and I'll send them to you. There are some more tricks you can employ to disallow someone to disarm it manually...
Thanks for the quick replies with the help.
Pushing the button twice and waiting for it to do it's thing worked.
I had tried that combination and it didn't work before. I think the problem was me not knowing how it worked and not allowing it to unarm before I puched the button again. I was panicking at the time trying to figure out how to get it to disarm.
Thumper26 I will PM you and take you up on your kind offer. It sounds like I should read about it further in case I ever get out somewhere and the remote goes kaput.
