Question for Big Twin bashers
We bash cagers... I don't know anyone who's sole mode of transportation is a bike... (if it is... I feel for ya')... but we don't take offense even though we are all cagers at least part of the time... Go figure...
Birds of a feather migrate together... you know... like-bike people have more in common, same experiences, problems to share... than say a sportster and a bagger...
If I do happen to get a cold shoulder... I move on... they are not the type of people I would choose to hang with anyway... so there is not a lot of time wasted... lol
For the most part though... it's all good

Why does it seem that alot of sportster threads start bashing guys on bigger bikes. I am always reading those threads and they don't make alot of sense. I don't see alot of Big Twin riders complaining. I had a 1200C and I will not lie it was fun to ride, but didn't cut it as a full time bike. I ride about 20,000 miles a year and alot of that in a 100 mile round trip to work. I need the storage and weight of the bigger bike on the interstate. I also ride a softail deluxe and I enjoy the bike very much. They don't get blown around as much by the wind and my flht can cruise at 90 mph all day. Why don't all you sporty riders stop the bashing and just enjoy your bikes. It gets old.
It seems to me its the other way around with the BTs, etc that bash the Sportsters around. That said, to each his own. They are all Harleys and thank God they still make all harleys, right!

This is a common "joke" I see everywhere....like this for example (tenth post down)

None of the guys I ride with would make fun of a Sportster, as we have either current, or past memories of how much fun the little 'Hot Rods" are to ride...
But during the past ten or so years there is a 'new breed' of Harley owner out there, people that aren't "bikers" by any stretch of the word, but just someone that has purchased a Big Twin as a status symbol more than anything else.
They wear their designer leathers or riding gear, and most put very few 'hard miles' on their bikes. Their riding is usually limited to riding a few miles (just so they can be seen) in fair weather conditions. In many cases I wouldn't even call them 'riders'..
Needless to say, I don't have much time for these people. I'd rather spend time with some old 'weather beaten' biker that has the correct attitute, one that has nothing to prove to anyone, and someone that could care less about what anyone thinks of his ride. I could care less about what they are riding as well.
Respect doesn't come from what you ride, it's something that is earned by the rider..
That is one thing that many of the newer riders fail to understand..

When I tell them it's a 1200 Sportster they almost always say "Oh" sorta like I just gave them bird flu or something.
Most of the real(Harley) bikers are fine with it.
BTW...the non bikers...when I tell them it's a 74 inch Harley...they think that's really cool (the duma$$es)
