Angry coil

Ok, electrical gurus, I have a question, I relocated my coil recently, and since then my bike spits and coughs more than usual, especially in 1st and 2nd gears when I'm trying to hold a steady slow speed. If I'm going thru the gears pretty good it doesn't happen, or if i'm in 4th or 5th just cruisin. Also my bike is popping back thru the exhaust when I let off of the throttle, and it never did that before. Someone at work mentioned that the coil might need to be grounded because right now the way I have it mounted its not touching any metal bracket, any thoughts??

Which year bike do you have? Never mind, saw it near your name.... I would check and make sure that the connectors are tight on the coil, also check for arching from the plug wires. Where did you relocate it to?

I relocated it on the left side where the horn normally goes, I'm going to change plugs, ordered some new plug wires, and I did check the electrical connection but saw now problem there, I may try and run a ground wire to the coil just to see if that is indeed a problem, anyway, thanks for the reply.

Check for codes, it could be the crank position sensor. Your symptoms also sound like a carb tuning might also help. 05 bikes were notorius for crank position sensor problems. A bad crank position sensor will cause problems at low speeds and coming off of idle.

Don't think coil grounding is the problem. Connecting the coil to ground is how the ECM causes it to fire. Maybe make sure you plug connection to the coil is clean and good.
