I bought a kit off ebay (typical china kit, slim ballast H4 hi/lo bi xenon, its a car kit so it came with 2 ballasts and bulbs and relay) I know I know you get what you pay for lets look past that,,
On to the issue. Straight foward install its all plug n play. Turn key on, light turns on, press to start, light goes off. Hm ok. Key off key on light turns back on. Go to start goes off again. Check all fuses and ground all clear. So I try a third time and Yay light stayed on. But after that it was 50 50 it would stay on or go off
Fast fwd to later tonight I tell my friend who installs hids on everything he own about it. He tries jumping a few wires, checks to see the relay is working and my hi/lo switch. Everything ok. So he jumps the 2nd unused connections for the 2nd ballast (i bought this kit so id have extras in case) hot to hot ground to ground and poof lights out wont turn back on. At all. Wtf..
So he bypasses the relay and the light works but stays on even with the key off (all fuses good). We try spare ballast, same thing so the ballast is fine
Continued my fat finger hit submit on my phone.
Heres the weird part now my hi/lo doesnt work and the light only turns only if you plug the relay in so the relay is good. But if you run the kit as designed the light wont turn on with the relay connected. Bypass the relay (hardwired to battery) light wont turn unless relay is plugged in. any ideas?
im only commenting this becaue maybe it will help someone if they use the search feature. simply put. cut off all the relays and junk and just use the bulb, ballast and whatever the hell that black box is that comes with it. hard wire it into your hi/lo plugs with terminals and be done with it, i took mine a step further and used a on-off-on switch from autozone (i removed my hi/lo from my handlebars since i dont have turn signals or a horn and didnt want any wires on my bars) and now have the option of leaving the light off during the daytime or upon start up thus saving my ballast and HID. and then flip it up for high beam and down for low. again. just dont even bother stressing out with the relay part.
The little black box that comes with the ballast and relay is the ignigter. It needs a full 12Volts to fire the momentary 12,500 Volts to light that bulb. It's not getting the full 12 it needs because it is being shut off and back on. I had a similar problem with a metric bike I had. I talked to an installer and he told me to use my other relay. You connect the other relay right to the battery and connect the other end to the bulb wires....the ones that come out of the bulb plug. I just can't remember which wires from the relay to connect to the bulb socket wires. The colors I mean....ask your buddy he might be able figure which one go where.
