Default sportster forty eight drag bars

i just ordered the new drag bar 0" rise 4" pull back for the 48 from harley davidson
i think i opened up a can of worms now they said i need the new diamond black throttle cable and brake line made specifically for the forty eight.
i figured what the hell and ordered the new diamond black foot pegs and grips and shifter peg.
anybody have this new set up from HD on their forty eight?

never seen the bars bars from harley, how much did they cost? I put the same bars on mine non harley brand for $25, mine are 32'' and I had no problem with the cables having to be changed out the only thing is with narrower bars you will need to relocate the turn signals to the lower triple

69.95 for HD bars cables needed are forty eight drag bar use specific and are shorter than stock cables on forty eight now!

Correct....what will happen is you will have "extra" cable; throttle, clutch and brake hose. You can order a shorter stock clutch cable without going to braided whatever.

Secondly, I run the HD drag bars (before they offered them in black) and you can still run your turn signals where they are...you just have to adjust them.

Also...clearance is only about 1/8" on either side to the tank...so when you first put them on...make sure you cover the tank prior to checking clearances.

mparrish what's the width of HD drag bars? Did you try to put them on with stock cables? I can't imagine there is that much extra cable.

I just installed this exact set-up on my 48. I went with the new brake line because it looked like the only way I could make the stock line work was to run it over the bars instead under. I also ended up moving my turn signals, seemed like the cleanest fix and it was really easy. The other problem I ran across was the bars hitting the upper forks. I ended up tapping the forks down 1/16" and now they clear easily. It was a little bit more difficult of an install than I was anticipating, just because the guy at the dealer told me these bars a made for the 48, and that is obviously not true. Like most other aftermarket parts, they seem to be more geared for the Nightster. I'll try and get some pics up tonight.

I bought black drag bars off ebay for $30 free shipping, 32 inches wide, 6 inch pullback and 8.5 inch center. Just had to relocate my signals to lower on the forks. No need to buy other cables at all. Only thing I did was remove the headlight and put the clutch cable behind it since it was out in front of the headlight after installing. They were just trying to make some more money by telling you that you needed new cables with the bars and that they were 48 specific. Quite funny that people still believe what the dealer tells them

I went over the bars with my brake line instead of replacing....was going to replace...just never have. Also...be creative with how you route the cables....esp. the throttle cables which are easier to bend than the clutch. In this pic you see my brake line going over and also I notched my nacelle and riser and have the clutch cable running down between them, behind my headlight and then tight down my downtube...keeps it nice and clean:

Here is a pic from etomorrow from the sportster forum that shows a good pic of before and after....and how much more cable is coming out in front of the bike since you moved the switch housings closer to the riser:
