1988 883 sport. Cranks but won't turn over for more than 1.5 secs. Battery good-spark good-fuel delivery from petcock good-when I twist throttle gas spurts into carb-good gas, but it just cranks away and wont light up. Any advice would be great as I'm far from being a mechanic.
Cranks but won't turn over for more than 1.5 secs.
Possible causes:
0. Bad battery, won't give enough amperes. Quite common with batteries that have been discharged and forgotten.
1. Battery cables are not making good contact.
2. Too advanced ignition.
Pull the plugs check if there flooded next thing it could be the ignition module. Mine went out on my 86 and seemed to have good spark but not enough to fire it up. And check your battery and battery cables make sure both of them are in working order.
Get an inline spark tester($10.) that one end plugs into the spark plug and the other end plugs into the spark plug wire and check for spark in front and rear cylinders. No spark? either your plug wire(s),coil(check wires going to coil from ignition) or ignition module may be the culprit.
