I am looking at doing the converion on the wifes 06 883L. It seems like a good winter project. From everything I have read it dosent seem to hard if I just take my time. I am leaning towards a kit from NRHS.
When we first started thinking of doing this the wife called the 2 local dealers to get prices for them to do it. 1 was $1300 including winter storage and the other was $1750 plus $250 winter storage. I couldnt believe the price difference. What the first place failed to mention (that we found out later) was that its for parts only. No labor. Add labor and the prices are the same.
Has anyone used a kit from NRHS and how do you like it.
Before I start this project is there any surprises that I have to look out for. Besides the warranty issue if anything goes wrong with the bike.
We plan on have it Dynoed after the conversion. How long should the motor be ran (broke in) before we have this done?
Hey Bubbas, I've done extensive research on the topic. Any of the aftermarket kits are pretty much going to be the same. I'm personally going with the H-D 1200 SE kit for my 07 883R, then SE mufflers. If you want a COMPLETE job to 1200 specs, there's more to it than just pistons and a bore job or new jugs. That will work if that's all you want. I'm getting 1200 cams, heads, clutch return spring, drive sprocket, the works. I'm also opting to stay 1200 stock rather than a high compression motor for longevities sake. Use it to go to work everyday, upwards of 40K miles per year. Need it to last a couple years.
I got an email today from one of the local HD dealers. They are running a winter special $699 for a 1500 conversion. I know that's not the same conversation we're talking about here, but just threw that out for pricing example.
SportyPig you meant $699 for a 1200 conversion right?
I am seriously looking at the 1250 conversion from NRHS. I have a friend that said he could help me with installing it. Now all I need to do is scrape up the money which is even tougher around Christmas time, especially when you have a wife that loves to shop and get something for everyone in the state it seems like.
