Decided to get back into Harley's after having a softail deluxe then s/e v-rod...rode a buell xb1200s and sorta liked it but it felt like I was going to go over the bars kinda feeling and felt more like a nervous bike, so to speak. So while the dealer was appraising my bmw trade,I asked the salesman for a ride on a 1200 sportster custom.....what a HOOT.... when I got back from my ride I had a big grin on my face....never had so much fun. It felt light, handled well, had decent power and was just plain fun, felt like a chopper although I've never rode a chopper.Understand I own a zx14 so I know what power feels like and it's hard for me to explain the reason why the custom was so much fun , it just is...so today while shopping at the dealer someone had just traded in a 06 custom, yellow pearl kinda color,950 miles, stage one kit, thunderheader exhaust for $8999.00..It's sitting out back at my house now after my neighbor asked for a SECOND ride around the block. What can I say.......
I'll never forget the look on my husband's face after he demo'd his first Harley on a whim (after spending 2 months on his starter Virago). My young son looked at his Dad and said to me "I think he liked it!"
It was a beautiful 2007 Black Cherry Pearl 1200L --- and yup, it's sitting outside my house right now.
Congratulations, Jerry. For what I have sunk into my 1200C, I could just as easily have bought any one of the Softtails, and having had a number of other bikes, I have to agree with you: the Sportster is just damn fun to ride. But, the after-market stuff you just gotta have will keep your play money bank broke.
Exactly what I was talking about, just plain fun to ride with a nice light feel.....softail I had felt like a couch and eventually was sooo boring so after investing $24000.00 and getting $14,500.00 in trade, it made me sick at the money lost but I never missed the bike. Also felt real good to stumble into a deal where someone else spent their money then traded. I could have bought the Street Bob but my wife said go with the one that was the most fun....there's this stigma attached to buying a smaller Harley...as if you have'nt arrived yet but I've been there and back again. So I'm out there polishing my Harley while my ZX14 sits and sits and sits catch my drift?????
