Default what octane do you use?

I have an 09 1200N. I am trying to beat these high gas prices but the problem arises with the cost of 93 octane. My stealer told me I had to run premium in the bike. With the cost of premium compared to the mileage in my cage, it is actually about the same or cheaper to run the cage.

So I ask, with the newer bikes, is it ok to run 87 octane or will it make it run like sh^!?

It'll run like crap. The engines were built and tested/tuned to run 91+. If you run less than that you risk detonation (very bad!), and probably lower gas mileage. It's not worth the small amount of money you will save to trash your engine.

Run the highest pump gas you can find. I like 93 at BP my 48 really likes that stuff.

Designed for 91, however, out here, you get 89 or 93, so I run 93.

I fill at half tank intervals, 93 octane one fill, 89 the next in both my 883 & 1200. Been doing it since the high gas prices in 08, have never noticed a performance problem or drop in mpg.

I run 93 octane usually Shell. Manual says to ruin 91+. If 30 cents a fill up really breaks me then I should probably consider getting rid of the motorcycle.....

93. If 12-15 dollars to fill up is breaking your bank perhaps you should invest in a Vespa I hear they get great mileage and you can use regular in them
