During my little ride today I passed a fellow biker and gave a small friendly wave and he points with his left hand to the ground? I'll admit, I didn't look to hard at the hand signal page when taking the MSF, but I don't think that was in there. Does anyone know if this means anything? It did remind me to ride a little closer to the center line because the guy in front of me was pulling a trailer and probably couldn't see me in his rearview, so I got in his sideview mirror. But I doubt thats what he was trying to do.
I've seen it as a common wave and will also wave with my hand down like that. I've seen some new riders get excited and wave back with an outstretched arm at 80mph. Lucky they didn't spin themselves right around.
I believe he was simply giving you the motorcycle wave. It's one of the most controversial topics right along side of helmet vs no helmet, fingerless gloves, and poser vs non poser.
When someone points to the ground it means, there is something on the road ahead of you.

On group rides, normally the road captain/s would give you guys a briefing about common hand signals prior to the ride. It could either mean road debris, pothole or he want you to pull up next to him.
