Default Battery

I am wanting to get a smaller than stock battery for my 08 Nightster. Anybody recommend a good brand and where to get it? Something that has good power and is reliable in the long run.

Just curious why you would think they haven't put the smallest available since there is limited space on the bike ? Just wondering ?????

Ballistic batteries are pretty damn small.

Power is directly related to size. I don't think you'll find one smaller that still has enough cranking power. Your best bet is probably to put the battery in a saddle-bag of some sort. I've seen that a couple of times.

Call Ballistic Batteries. They have small batteries that match and exceed OEM batteries and are smaller....and lighter.

Cool

I went to that site,,and did some reading on these light weight
Lithium Ion and phosphate batteries..
Complex circuitry needed to charge,
often a lower voltage underload,,
prone to explosion If charged Incorrectly,,

The one that has the amps to start a sportster,,almost 200 bucks
all sales final,,sounds like no warranty at all,,I dunno

Even the hybrid cars use a lead acid battery to start and they have
the advanced charging circuitry on board.

I would want to hear from others that have had them In a sportster for
at least a year,,,

I met the guys at a dealer show. They put the batteries through a vigorous testing cycle. The charging issue is the same as any battery...they're just more sensitive to off board charging. But they don't require a trickle charger as they only lose 10% idle over a year span. Even installed.

That day (last year) they gave me one to try in my GSXR. Yes, I have a GSXR

I needed as small of a battery as I could get because I have a "Sneaky Pete" wet nitrous system (hidden) where the stock battery goes. I haven't had any trouble with it at all.

Call them. Cool guys to shoot the **** with.

I recently installed the 12 cell $200 ballistic battery on my 2011 sportster. It ran fine for about 25 miles . Then the bike started sputtering and stalling and the check engine light came on and the bike would die. To get the bike to start again, I would have to cycle the hi/low headlight switch, then the fuel pump? would come on and the bike would start, but run like ****. Well, I put the old battery back on, and the bike runs well again. Don't know if it was the ballistic battery or not, but when I replaced it, the bike ran fine.

P.s., I thought that once you start the bike, you could remove the battery completely and it would still run?

Braille batteries are top notch...they are typically lighter (you can even get them in carbon fiber) and have more cranking power than similar size batteries, a big plus for V twins. I put one in my previous KTM 950 and it was one of three things I kept (also kept a Corbin seat and taller windscreen) to transfer over to my current KTM 990. The stock battery had a tougher time turning over the engine at start up and would discharge more quickly.

Not sure which model would fit your bike but check out their website and if you like what you see give them a call...they probably have an appropriate model.
