Well as Osco mentioned above the 883 is geared lower. However, the cure is to simply use the front sprocket from the 1200. You will need some mods or it will bog down on some hills. With just a carb re-jet, air cleaner, and exhaust upgrade they're good to go.
My Sporty is pretty stable up to 105, I usually don't ride that fast. At that speed it still had plenty of power, I didn't trust the 39mm shocks at speeds much higher though. The bike's pretty comfortable at 70 and below. Windsheilds and full face helmets in the summer are for geezers. Build up the strength in your abdominal muscles and drop the hammer.
i had a 69 ironhead hardtail chopper,12'over springer front..took it full throttle down the highway for about 10 miles once, wide open/top speed..have no idea what that was because there wasn't a speedo on it..that was years ago,i wouldn't do it now,..it shook everywhere and the light poles were a blur
ive took my iron to about a 100 with about 15mph winds wearing a jockey lid...it gets kinda of sketchy at first....but u get use 2 it...u gotta pop your cherry sometime...but u gotta stay LOW N SLOW so all the females can see u
Wellllll how things change! Yesterday afternoon I was out riding county hwy's building confidence.
Now flashback to a couple nights ago I was reading a thread somewhere on here about a guy who said motorcycle troopers go WOT when passing an 18 wheeler so as not to spend any time along side of them. Seems it's a dangerous place to be should a re-tread tire let go....
Back to yesterday afternoon,,,,,, I come up on Roehl transport 18 wheeler with an old couple in a sedan tucked up behind the rig going thru a small town on US HWY 10 (2 lane) once out of town acceleration was slow and I saw my opening! Pulled out twisted hard and kicked up to 5th and twisted harder! All the while with that thread in my head about being alongside semi's
Within minuets I was along the shoulder with a county boy telling me he "tagged" me doing 87! I explained to him my reasoning and it was in the interest of safety and along with my unblemished driving record and being a former LEO pilot many years ago I was let go.
The officer actually agreed with me on the Idea of spending the least amount of time alongside of a big rig.
