Sorry Guys..... I read all the threads on engine ticking/knocking, and couldn't really find a good answer.
My '07 Nighster has about 1600 miles on it now, bought it about a month ago with 480 miles on it. Did the 1k service at the local dealership, a couple of weeks ago, where they swapped the SE Front and back muffler as the previous owner had installed them backwards ( I didn't notice). And also did the Stage 1 download as that had not been done by the previous owner when he put the SE pipes on backwards...
Anyway, I know the top of the cylinder ticks like a sewing machine on acid as previously discussed in many other threads.
My question or issue is that the "ticking" get's a WHOLE lot louder after about 20 minutes of freeway riding at about 70 mph. The bike also misfires a bit when letting off the throttle. No change in performance and the oil looks good, haven't checked the spark plugs yet and as far as I can tell the exhaust looks like it's properly tightened.
What would cause the ticking to get louder when the bike is warm?
Taking it down to a buddy's house on Saturday to get it checked out. Since I don't have any warranty and cancelled my 3rd party insurance....lol
Just curious if anyone out there is experiencing the same issue?
That's about the same amount of miles I noticed mine got noisy, now at 14,440 it sounds exacly the same, as the engine heats up the oil gets thinner, hence more noise. Different knds of oil do not help. One thing that did help was a PowerCommander III, the oil never gets above 205 degrees and that only on 100 degree days. Before PCIII 220 to 240 was normal. Mine's a 2007 1200C.
Yes, Superfly it pops when I let of the gas, not consistently but some times when shifting down from 5th to 4th or when just letting off the gas a little.
Hey man, I had that sound in my sporty as well, the popping and misfiring is because the stage 1 still makes the bike run lean. I switched to amsoil and added a power commander and it fixed my problem. I did that first thing when I bought my wide glide and I've never had it.

Normal. They all POP a little bit...now if it sounds like a gun shot or a really loud POP then theres a problem.
Not necessarily I notice some popping with my power commander as well. I'm going to get it dynotuned one of these days though. I ran stage I w/ slipons and SE a/c for awhile without even a download.
