Default RSD Mod Help Please!

Ok, I've done some research but all the threads I looked at didn't seem to have the exact answer I was hoping for.

Basically, I'm ready to start modding my Iron more. Right now I just have V&H Short Shots, along with taking the front fender off, and flipping the mirrors.

I'm looking into getting the RSD clip-ons and speedo re-locator. I'm wondering if I'm going to have to buy a new brake line, I've read both yes and no. The clip-ons will be mounted just under the triple tree. Along with this, will I need ANY other cables?

As far as the clip-ons go, I've read about internal wiring, and I have no idea what that is, or if it is necessary? I want to use the stock grips, master cylinder, handles, etc.

For the speedo, I'm assuming it's plug-and-play? I will also be getting the indicator lights as well. Is there anything else I will need for this? I've read that the two bolts holes will be exposed after doing this...what should I use to cover them up?

And here comes probably the most technical problem...I would like to run without front indicators and mirrors (possibly). I like the look of this, and I don't really need the mirrors, nor the indicators. I'm not concerned about legality issues either, but what I'm more concerned with is what do I use to plug the holes with, and what do I do about the wiring from the indicators?

Any help would be much appreciated!

You technically don't need to get shorter lines, however i would suggest on getting them shorter, apprx 6-7" shorter than stock, so they're not jumbled up in the front.

You can internally wire the clip-ons as I did, but you'll have to bore them out as they are solid aluminum.

The speedo relocator is just a bracket, not a whole new speedo so there's no reason to worry about plug n play. The indicator lights will have to be spliced and soldered together to the wiring harness.

As for the turn signals, just either remove them from the wiring harness under the tank, or cut the wires and tuck them under.

If you remove the mirrors, just plug them with some joker machine plugs.

I know all this because I did the exact same thing to my bike...

Crap...that sounds like a lot more work than I was expecting! BTW your bike looks great! Where did you get the smoked rear indicator lenses?

Do you happen to have any pictures of the front?

Internal wiring and soldering can be a pain, if it's your first time doing stuff like this, put it on the list of to do's. But if you're adventurous like me, HAVE AT IT!!

+1 on the cables, not necessary but it helps.

As far as the turn signals, when I unintentionally did away with mine (dropped it) I found my rears wouldn't work because there was an open circuit. So, I did away with the rears as well and only run a brake light

Mirrors - Check your state laws. I did away with both and found out that CA requires at least one...

I did the RSD speedo on my custom but with 7.5" tall bars and I am using the stock cables but the brake line. I would imagine if you didnt go with aftermarket cables, your stock cables would be extremely long. You probably wouldnt like them too much.

I had to make a custom bracket for my RSD speedo mount because the custom has a different visor mount. Your's would be easy... simply bolt-on and put your new speedo in. Yeah like papa said before this, you will splice the new indicator lights in, but if you can solder, its simple.

BTW... Papa's bike is why I went the RSD kit in the first place. It does look sic.

I attached some pics of my setup also.

Sweet, thanks for the help...I don't think soldering will be an issue. Anyone know what size brake line I need and where I can order one?

And Burble, I would still like to run the rear indicators, is there a way to complete the circuit without ditching both? Is is connected to the main harness or what?

Go to magnum shielding and order it 7-8" shorter than stock. I can't remember what the exact length was, but I remember ordering it 7" shorter than stock. Or you can try Barnett...Spiegler...

Ok I went to Magnum to look for a brake line and when I looked on my bike, there is a metal bar connecting the two separate brake lines. I'm assuming I would be replacing that (and the two lines) with one new line, correct? Does anyone know the actual length I need to order? The only way I can think of measuring the stock length would be to get a string and do it that way, but that's work that I would rather avoid if someone knows the length! Magnum has them from 36-74".

And BTW: I assume I need to order both the speedo relocate, and the indicator lights, correct? How difficult is it to solder them together? Anything I'm missing? The only cable I will need to replace is the brake line, correct?

Any help would be appreciated, I'm very much out of my realm, but I would like to order these and get these on the bike!

Yes on the brake line. It will be one piece. Stock length is 42". I ordered 32" from Magnum. You have to go to their custom ordering page and order it.

Yes on ordering both speedo and indicator lights. If you know how to solder, it shouldn't take you that long. Not hard at all.

You will need to replace all cables so they don't look wack on your bike. Otherwise they will be bunching up in front.

Clutch length I believe is 57.25" stock. I ordered 49.5"
Throttle/Idle I believe is 30" stock. I believe I ordered 22.5"
