Hate to say it, but helmet locks do no good. I had my helmet locked onto my Yamaha 650 (neat gizmoes the Japs come up with) and someone simply cut the rings off with a knife. Easy job to patch a new set of rings on a helmet.

That's what I was wondering about the various helmet locks.

I mean how hard would it be to take your trusty Buck knife (or any other knife) and just cut through the straps. Wouldn't take but a few seconds.

And as you mentioned, it's not that difficult to repair the strap.

Seems to me the best way to protect your helmet would be to keep it out of sight in a locked hard bag like they have on the touring bikes.

If a thief wants something bad enough they will find a way to take it. Could be your helmet or your entire bike. If I come out of somewhere and my helmet is gone from the locks then so be it, at least I tried to keep it safe. Now if I just hang it on the bars and it's gone, then I can't complain one bit. To each their own.

I hang it from the bars... and if someone takes mine you better believe I'm gonna complain!!! You can't lock up everything. If someone wanted they could come and steal your seat in less than 20 seconds... "well you should have locked that up..." sure it is a bit different. But if someone wants something.... they're gonna take it, stupid little lock or not.

Who are you going to complain to? I guess if you want to be 100% safe, don't ever buy a bike (or anything for that matter), then you have no worries of it or any of it's pieces getting stolen. Can't live in fear. People steal. Just hope it never happens to you, me or anyone else on this board. People need to keep their hands to themselves. Now if you catch someone in the act, I hope you will do the honorable thing and beat the living crap out of them.

I use the H-D Helmet lock. Mounted it on the left side of the handlebar. Work OK. It is a little tuff to get the helmet locked on with the Tach and Windshield, but after a few times its not hard to lock it up.
