a little background first.
I have a 2010 883 iron with stage one a/c and d&d bobcat exhaust.
i want a conversion kit either 1200 or 1250, the shop im getting it done at is reccomending the 1250, and they said they havent had any complaints about it from their customers. i think its a screaming eagle kit their using also.
ive been reading a little bit and ive seen that there have been some complaints about oil consumption and overheating issues. but nothing recent and only for the NRHA kit. can anybody give me some input on this? the cost is about the same so if the reliability will be the same as well im gonna get the 1250
i love mine. i just bought it a week ago and it definately has some power. But since i just bought it a week again im not really too sure about oil consumption, but the gauge the other day told me i was running at 240 but i was in town but heres a pic of mine
You'll be in it $5000 - $7000 by the time your done with it.
Yeah that's kind of what I figured. There's also a trask turbo kit out there for like 4300, but I'd imagine you'd want upgraded internals and such before doing that. Claim 60+hp out of it though.
The 1250 kit with NHRS had problems with 04 and up not just the 04 models. I had an 05 and it would use a quart of oil every 500 miles after converting it to a 1250. The problem is supposedly fixed now but the way they handled the problem denying it was their parts and instead Harleys problem left a bad impression of them on me.
OK here is my story I looked around before deciding on a 1250 conversion kit from NRHS .
I picked a local Indy shop over the SE kit offered at 2 local dealerships. (probably 1st mistake)
Anyway the KIT is suppose to be drop in and yet the Indy shop told me they had to do some machining ($$$) before hand.
Then they installed a power commander but could not get the bike to run properly so the excuse was they had to take it to the dealership to get a HARLEY 1200CC MAP DOWNLOADED prior to tuning the power commander. ( $$$$$)
My bike runs like a BULL ..very strong .. BUT!!! Its just not running right ( backfires and spits)
Im taking it to the local dealership and have them try to dyno tune or something.
My guess is they will blame it on the Indy and try to sell me some SE Race tuner or something.
My suggestion is if the price is comparable ..Go with genuine SE parts
You will be much happier and safer in the long run
