I have a 1991 Sportster xlh. I ride the normal twisties, backroads, freeway, etc. No burnouts. I've never gotten more than 5,000 miles on my back tire. Anyone else out there get around this many miles?
5000 is about it on the rear if your going to be safe less than that if you ride two up a lot.
There are basic two kinds of motor tires round and flat.
If you go round there is more grip thru the truns but the center goes smooth. If you go flat the grip in the trun is less but the tire last longer and has more grip at the stop light git and go.
Seems low. I got about 13,000 out of my rear. Do you live in a very hot climate? That can wear tires quicker. A lot of 2-up riding will wear it down, too. Also, check your tire pressure more often if you don't already. That is the number one killer of mileage on tires.

I'm not sure what you mean by 5,000 being all the rear tire can handle to be safe. Mine is over 5,000 and isn't even close to being finished. I also ride 2-up often. Maybe it's a different in riding style.
