Fuel Light Question?

I have an '04 883 custom. I have noticed on my speedo that there is a fuel light but it has never lit up. It doesn't even light up upon startup. Should this be working or is this an option that I do not have.

Also has anyone ever found an add on fuel gauge for a sportster.

The fuel light does not function on that model.

Most people I know that have fuel guages say they arent worth it. I use my trip meter to guage my fuel. I know when I get around 110 miles on the meter its time to start thinking about gas.
