Default Loan Bike

My Buell was in for a service this week and the dealership gave me this for a day.....

I must admit I quite enjoyed my brief spell on a factory custom, although the riding position took a little getting used to. I clocked up 185 miles in the short time I had it.
My only problems where I found the Sportster to be a little small for me, the most comfortable position over 55mph being sitting half on the pillion seat.
And it was too quiet, I know they are stifled a bit to meet emission laws but a change of pipe and air filter would liberate quite a few ponys, and make you be able to hear that lovely noise.

Also compared to the chain driven Sporty I had about 12 years ago, the new rubber mounted engine really made the bike seem a little neutral. I really noticed the difference when I got back on the old Buell (No namby pamby rubber mountings here.)

But on the whole a very good bike, I must admit i was very tempted and had a good look at a few at the dealership when I got back. If my Lotto numbers come up tonight ????

Howdy Lev, glad to hear that they were nice enough to give you a loaner while yours was in the shop. I would imagine that there would be a little difference in riding position between your Buell and the Sporty. I know when I was sitting on every Harley that I could, not all of them felt just right to me. I think that it's a good way to tell if a person would like to buy a new Harley, just sit on it and ride it for awhile. At least you had some way to spend your free time while you were waiting. Enjoy the ride

I agree, after awhile the riding position on my 97 1200c gets a little old. i have hwy pegs, mid controls and i sometimes even use the passenger pegs for a bit on long hauls. I have a corbin solo, but sometimes to stretch out a bit, my *** is all the way up on the rear fender. My seat has next to no padding so its not much of a difference either[:@][:@]. Anyways I love my sporty with the exeption of long hauls, so im looking for another bike as well, probly a softtail delux, or a road king classic. ill keep my sporty and use it for gettin to work and back nd puttin around town but when i get away on the weekends, the bigger bike will be a godsend. plus the wife will probly inherit the sporty

You're riding my bike! My bike is exactly the same color and also has that engine guard. Just put on a back rest and you're riding my sporty.

I actually like the riding postion of my bike. I'm 5'10- 5'11 and my legs are in the same position that I drive my car. If you want to stretch out more, then you could always put highway pegs on the engine guard.

I've noticed that anything I haven't ridden for awhile feels out of place. I used to ride my friends 1200R with mid-mount controls and after getting my bike I keep pushing his highway pegs trying to use the rear brake. It used to be something that felt natural and now just feels out of place. Same thing with cars. When I go from driving a passenger car to a van or a truck where the transmission shift is by the steering wheel I keep reaching down to get into drive. Just doesn't feel right for some time.
