^^^amidst the novel long posts you supply......twist of the wrist is probably the best info you ever posted. not to say the other stuff isn't, you just don't hold my attention span that long and your posts make my eyes geek the hell out (lol). really intended for novice riders and up but she could benefit from everything in that book. twist of the wrist 2 is also good after you get the fundamentals down. keith code knows motorcycles better than anyone.

You don't mention your level of experience so my advice is based on you being a novice rider. Take the class, ride your bike in a parking lot at slow speeds until you can't take it any more. Learn how to use your REAR brake effectively and when to use your front brake. Practice that lots! Anyone can go fast and straight. It's the turns and stops that get people. Be safe, and check out the Queens of the Road Forum. You'll get advice from other lady riders. Congrats on the new ride. Post pics when you can.

Talking Re. Newbie

I was born here in MT, but my heritage is Cajun. My granddaddy was the only one of his family ever to leave from down there for an extended period. I haven't been down there since I was about 12 but I would love to go back...maybe for Mardi Gras some year. I am a novice (read I have not been on anything but a dirtbike ever, and not since I was about 10.) I am going to get my bike his afternoon...in fact I'm leaving in short order. The guy I'm buying from is going to ride it to my house. After that I plan to go play in the high school parking lot and a lot of slow moving side streets. I am scheduled for the MSF class, but not for another month. I may go crazy with it sitting in my garage that long. The funny thing is that I was initially going to purchase a Genuine Buddy scooter until I went to a women's only garage party at the Harley dealership near me. I fell in love a bit with the culture and the image that the strong women there portrayed. I am beginning a new career and I have decided that with it will come a new me....here goes. Definitely interested in hearing more suggestions...especially for videos and books.

Thanks guys! I will post pics soon.

Cajun Your riding skills will come everytime you saddle up just as your horse skills have. reading and asking questions will help with the street smarts. But the MSF school is worth waiting for. In no time you will be out riding in one of the best parts of the country to ride in lucky you.... Enjoy your new found freedom and soon to be new found friends.

Angry clutch handle

Anyone have any idea what it costs approximately to replace the brake and clutch handles? When I dumped my bike over the end broke off of the clutch handle....I'm pretty pissed about it but it was my own stupid fault. I'm fine except a giant bruise on my leg and one on my pride. The bike is ok except for the issue above...

Default Take baby steps

I took an MSF course even though I had ridden alot when I was a teenager (40 years ago though). It was great and I highly recommend it. If you have to pick the bike up yourself, pick it up at a low traffic time of day--evening or weekend. Then confine yourself to neighborhood streets and practice over and over, adding additional distance, and more challenging curves and street situations slowly. After a few weeks you will be comfortable with your new bike and be ready to venture forth cautiously.

I followed that course and am having a GREAT time!

Call the dealership or ask around about a good MC mechanic in your area.
