Hello all! I am a newbie, both to this site and to riding a motorcycle of any sort. I will be picking up my 2003 Sportster 883 Anniversary Edition either later today or tomorrow. I am both excited and nervous about getting started. Anyone have tips, hints etc.?
Welcome to the Bike Life!!! Given your screen name, i guess it would be safe to assume your from Louisiana and somehow or another ended up in montana. I'm a Louisiana native myself and ended up here in Atlanta. Congrats on the bike purchase! Start out on low traffic roads and take it easy. if you get uncomfortable or nervous take a break for a few minutes and go back at it. Once you figure out the take off, the rest of it is a lot easier. If you have a Riders Edge class in your area, i would recommend it. Its not very expensive, only about $300 and is a lot cheaper than a hospital bill. Once you start riding, it gets in your blood and never gets out. Have fun and be safe!!
Above what has already been said, ask the dealer to deliver your bike to your house vs driving it home in traffic. That way you can start out practicing in your neighborhood where hopefully traffic is lighter.
