Hey OP re check your belt tension.
The extra Inch means your swingarm Is now working through the max
pivot point. Your belt Is prolly too tight.
This Is a common overlooked problem with Roadsters because of 13.5" shocks.
It puts unnessesary strain on the belt and causes suspension to loose It's
Linear smoothness throughout Its travel.
I like the Old school methode for belt tension.
I grab the belt up top middle, with two fingers and twist It 1/4 to the vertical.
Betcha cant do that now XD
I'm running 0 psi as well and just have the caps. I want to install the shraeder valves on them but I'm too cheap to buy one of those hand pumps from HD.
0 psi seems to work well when I'm riding solo but wouldn't mind adding some air and seeing how that feels.
Can someone explain what adding air does? Would it be making the shocks stiffer?
I just put the Schrader valves(tank valves) on mine. Just use a small bicycle pump and check pressure with a low PSI guage. I too was running them with 0 psi and noticed a difference when I went to 5 psi.
The air you put in the shocks only effects rebound. The more are you put it in slower they rebound (open back up). They are preloaded for 700+ pounds for compression and that can't be changed.
You can learn a lot about bagger shocks when you ask about them in the bagger forum.
OP here.
The guy that installed them for me is a certified Harley mechanic that works at a dealership.
He's the only person that touches my bikes and I trust him implicitly.
He installed them correctly and without any problems.
Took him about 20 minutes.
Belt tension is spot-on.
Maybe some of ya'll's pointers will help someone that's doing their own install.
Ride safely.
I have 12" SG's on my '09 Iron, the stockers were 11". There's nothing wrong with my belt tension. Clearly, there's nothing wrong with yours either. Your swingarm moves plenty in the course of normal use. If this were so major of a factor, you'd have that problem just riding. Since it's an incredibly simple thing to do, I did the install myself. Not EVERY single change requires making adjustments in other areas. Some people just panic over everything or overthink.
