Default Blacking out your engine, casing

Hey, I'm sure there are some riders here who blacked out the engine casing.

I'm planning to black out as many things as I can i.e transmission casing, derby cover, primary, sproc cover and so on. Just wondering if I use high temp black spray on them, will it last? Heard that sometimes the heat gets too hot for the spray to stay.

And engine fins too, have anybody tried blacking that out? At a dilemma to try spraying them back first or to send them for powdercoating straight away.

I can tell you from experience working in near vicinity of 16 cylinder turbo CAT diesels that your bike isn't going to hit a temp higher than the VHT paint will be good with. That being said, even after all the prep and following of instructions I did with painting mine it is rubbing off where my left heel hits the case. I'll just have to touch it up in the future.

How about the fins and engine area? Planning to black them out like how the iron looks like.

You spray your engine without removing it? Is it hard to get a smooth surface on the fins? There are some hard to reach areas. Anyway I think the harley textured matt black paint is really nice. Did you prime your casings before you sprayed them?

For those who sprayed their primary casing, do you remove the casing to spray on spray with it still on the bike? I'm planning to do so but I do not want my bolts to be black. Is it advisable to remove one bolt, spray that area, then screw it back and repeat the steps for all the bolts? At least in this method the casing still stays on.

Hey xcore,

I painted my jugs and casings. I just used a lot of tape and a lot of newspaper. Just pick what paint you want and get a case of beer. Take your time taping everything you don't want to be sprayed, I suggest starting in the morning. Again take your time taping and take your time spraying also.

oh and one more thing. I just went ahead and sprayed all the screws so if you want to not paint the screws just tape those.
